About Me
I am from Mandan, North Dakota. I attended elementary school at Lewis and Clark and continued my education at Mandan Middle and High School. While in high school, I was the vice president of Student Council and president of Spanish Club. I was also active in National Honor Society, Trust N Teens, Cheer, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America. I was a part of the Best of the Class for Mandan High School graduating with an overall GPA of a 4.02. Throughout high school, I succeeded dual credit through Bismarck State College. After graduation, I continued my education at the University of Mary. I am a part of the University of Mary's year-round campus program, allowing me to graduate with my four-year degree in two and a half years.
Besides babysitting, I have been working with kids since I was a freshman in high school. My first job was at Early Years Learning Center at Saint Joseph's School in Mandan where I worked with children ranging from newborn-5th grade. I spent the majority of my time in the 3-5-year-old room. I organized daily activities for the children, read books, played games, and responded to all the needs of the children under my care. At the beginning of my junior year, I decided I wanted to get involved with students in the school system and received a job at Mandan's After School Care Program. I work there part-time during the school year and full-time in the summer. This past year, I was promoted to supervisor of the program at my school site, Red Trail Elementary in Mandan. I organize and plan daily activities for the students, teach art lessons, communicate with parents, order supplies, plan the weekly schedule, supervise the staff, and lead staff meetings at my site. This experience has allowed me to work with many different learners, families, behaviors, and employees. I have experience with problem-solving, weekly lesson planning, and leadership. These opportunities have led me to the path of education. I enjoy the students that I work with and getting to communicate with their families. My family is a huge part of my life. My father, John Schaner, is a hard worker. He puts in long hours as the supervisor at Marathon Petroleum. My mother, Carrie, is my best friend; we do everything together. My mom and I will go to lunch, shopping, or anything and everything in between. I have two older brothers, Devin and Derik. Devin recently bought a fixer-upper, and my family spent most of the summer transforming his house. It was a huge project and hard to see potential in the house at first but the results turned out beautiful. My other brother, Derik, is getting his masters in speech pathology at UND. I spent most of my summer working with him in a classroom of about 30 kids through the Mandan Activities Program and enjoyed every minute of it. Another very important part of my life is my puppy, Wrigley. He follows me everywhere I go and is very cuddly and smart. I am kind of a crazy dog mom and could talk about him for hours. My boyfriend of over three years, Lukas Masseth, goes to school South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for mining engineering. This summer when he was not working at BNI coal, he was usually at home working on the farm. |
